#4 is Quilla’s big year
In May and June, Greensboro-based performer Anna Luisa Daigneault, better known as Quilla, released new singles with accompanying music videos. “Boom Ba Da” debuted from Skateland’s rink on UNC-TV on May 2. Later on June 14, “Saggitarius” dropped with video collaboration from Hassan Pitts and Jennida Chase, two UNCG Media Studies professors, along with their third-year students. Her Spotify stream hit 3.1 million listeners in 2019.

s/n’s collaboration with sound artist Felyrii a multi-platform new media work called After Hunt’s Spiral debuts in the Midwest during the The 65th Annual Faculty Exhibition at the Pogue Gallery in East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.
Queen City : Playable Space is collaborative project highlighting areas around Charlotte, North Carolina. The city itself is a main character, explored through the varied points of view of the project participants.
During the summer of 2019 while in residency at the McColl Center for Art + Innovation, artist collective s/n collaborated with rising 8th and 9th graders attending Studio 345 to create a multimedia project highlighting areas of Charlotte, North Carolina. The teenagers worked with s/n to collect video along the LYNX Blue Line light rail system. After the video footage was collected, s/n remixed it into short video segments. Each segment is linked to distinct locations, responding with video, specifically to that physical space.
This project spans multiple platforms. It is comprised of playable prints, where participants can scan printed images, and play the video via their phones. Additionally, the artists created an interactive, playable Google Map, in which these individual segments are tied to their GPS coordinates of origin. In partnership with The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) and its Art in Transit program, the playable prints are displayed within the light rail vehicles for passengers to enjoy. This project was also partially funded by the Filmed in NC Fund.
This is the largest scale public art project created by s/n to date. Accessibility plays a key role in s/n’s work. By placing video and sound works into public space, engagement with the public becomes possible. The use of common, personal technology such as a cell phone to access public art addresses technological hierarchy and public access. This works to negotiate personal, virtual and public space simultaneously. The project seeks to blend sensory interpretations and responses with the aid of an ancillary means of experiencing a sense of place.

Our music video Sagittarius will screen at the Västerås Filmfestival in Sweden this Autumn! The video was launched by Quilla in June and was also a part of the Indie Visions Film Festival and the Hollywood Verge Film Festival!

Create a mini cityscape or sanctuary you can take home with you. Alumna artist Sharon Dowell leads you through experimental painting exercises with color, texture, and pattern on paper.
Repetition, Pattern & Radial Forms
Transform existing patterns into something new by incorporating decorative shapes of rubber stamps, a technique used by current artist-in-residence Troy Dugas.
Create a collaborative textile artwork
Following alumna and exhibiting artist Susannah Mira’s artistic practice of using recycled materials, all of the fabric pieces used in this hands-on art making activity are remnants sourced from the Charlotte region’s textile industry.
Art from Rocks and Soil
Do you know your ecological address? Artist-in-residence Lauren Rosenthal McManus wants to help you find it! Bring a soil or rock sample from your property or local creek to Lauren’s studio and add a pin to her watershed map of Mecklenburg County. She’ll use your samples to create natural pigments for a new limited-edition, hand-colored print series of Charlotte’s streams.

How to get here and where to park
We’re at 721 N. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte. Plenty of free parking is available on N. Tryon St. on Saturdays and in the lot at the corner of W. 10th St. and N. Church St. (behind Charlotte Ballet).
